Cheese Sandwiches by Dave Riley Printer Friendly

You know that old Kraft TV commercial* with the white-haired grandpa who eats a piece of cheese, then gets all misty-eyed and comments to his grandson that the taste "sure takes me back some?" Inspired, he launches into the story of how as a lad, he and his brothers would go down to the old swimmin' hole. Their mother would make a bunch of cheese sandwiches for them to take on their summertime sojourn. His eyes twinkled and he heartily chuckled as he admitted that while his brothers were busy swimming he'd "eat all them cheese sandwiches." Well, I think he was a world-class prick.

* I havenít owned a TV in years. For some reason I just happened to think of this commercial.

You were one of those brothers, weren't you, Dave Riley?

I still have a TV (no cable), but I had to quit the Kraft. Like 'grandpa', everytime I took a bite I suffered brutal flashbacks. On a dare I ate half a bag of ultra-sharp shredded. Thought I was back in Nam and I was only 16 at the time. Woke up 3 days later, naked in the middle of the freeway with an empty bottle of cheese-whiz in each hand. Do yourself a favor, "Just Say No to Kraft."
