Rough Landing by Ray Printer Friendly

There's a pain you get. Remember when you were a little kid? It's this pain in your ankle, when you jump off something too high, and you land wrong. A roof or a swing-set or whatever. It's a special kind of pain, something you forget when it heals, and even though you remember that it hurt, you don't remember exactly how bad.

It hurts. Sharp and brutal, and it feels like your foot is gonna break right off.

But you're with your friends, or you're on the playground, so you can't cry, no matter how bad it hurts. You just suck it up, and you smile like you're supposed to, you pretend that the excruciating pain isn't there.

It's this pain you get from jumping out of something too high, and landing different than any way you imagined. It's when you judged everything wrong, and you didn't realize how bad it would hurt when you hit the ground.

Anyway, God damn heartbreak.

Thanks for putting into words the feeling that most everyone has experienced at least once in their life. Although you forgot to add the part that after dusting yourself off you usually head to the swings because you can still feel like your part of the action while you nurse your open wounds. Maybe you need to find some swings and evaluate.
