More Good Stuff by Trey Printer Friendly

It's friday night friends, and the the rain is coming down in sheets thick as lead, but, by gawd, I've got music and a good dose of whiskey in my blood.

Despite the weather, I figure tonight I'll lighten things up and annoy Ray a bit. For this week I'm doing an Ode to the Redneck.

For your listening pleasure, an assortment of white trash treasures.

(If you don't like one, maybe you'll still give the next a chance.)

We start with a newish band out of Austin. The video is weak, but this is the best version I could find.

Burn the Honeysuckle - The Gourds

A great cover of a classic.

Does My Ring Burn Your Finger - Buddy Miller

Texas Underground - Dave Carter

It was hard to choose just one from Junior Brown, but this is a classic and a great live performance.

My Wife Thinks You're Dead - Junior Brown

Did I say it was all upbeat? I lied. Too good to leave out. The late great Johnny Cash.

Ain't no grave can hold my body down - Johnny Cash

To close it out, one of my very favorite dead rednecks, Johnny Paycheck.

11 Months and 29 Days - Johnny Paycheck

Tune in next week for another set of songs.

I'm thinking Reggae... or Blues... or Soul... or Techno... or maybe something else...

So much music, so little time.

As always, feel free to mention a favorite or two of your own in the comments below.

"Burn the Honeysuckle" is a pretty good song, but I'm a sucker for lyrics like, "she's got skin like tobacco." Your Lala imbeds only work if you log in, so I didn't listen to them. Junior Brown makes me want to kill cute baby kittens. For some reason, I've heard a ton of his stuff, and it always makes me hate the world a little more. The two Johnny's are, of course, bad ass. All in all, you could have done a better job of irritating me with your hillbilly music.

If I could have found those two lala sounds anywhere else, I would have. If you know of a place I can upload mp3s and link to them without being eaten alive by lawyers, let me know. In the meantime, Lala is awesome anyway. Sign up.
