Muddy Tears by Ray Printer Friendly

........................................................................................................................

Not because I have anything to say,

But because I donít:

Curled-lip Apathy,

Scowling as it passes by.

And later it will either tell its friends that

It fought you

Or

Fucked you.

Driving and drowning,

Sinking, suffocating, succeeding;

We all want to be moreó

Perhaps we should obsess about

Obsessing.

Dropped dreams and hopeless hopes,

And broken toys rotting on cement floors;

We think we understand life until it

Exposes itself.

Haunted by the screams from the night,

Screams from a stranger,

Wanting help, pleading for it,

But not expecting it.

Look:

A gift, wrapped,

Shiny and beautiful and full of potential,

And smashed under an abusive fatherís foot.

Or?

A torn, bloody skirt,

Soaked in gutter grit,

And tears.

A price tag still on the cuff, forgotten in

Excited anticipation.

The future looked so pretty

Until it arrived.

I once watched hopelessness:

A fat child,

Disregarding a candy bar,

Crying.

Morbid and depressing but effective and well done at the same time.

Thanks, man. Honestly, I didn't even know anyone read the Poet's Corner stuff.
